Siena lies to the north while the wine towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino are about 10 miles away to the south and to the west. The village is sited on the ridge of hills separating the Val di Chiana and the Crete Senesi, a unique landscape of rolling hills, and close to the stunning Val D\u2019Orcia, a World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n<p>A hot air balloon flight is a wonderful way to take in the unspoilt landscape and whilst you are in the area, here are a few ideas of what to do in Montisi and the surroundings:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Book an hour-long walking tour of the village to learn its history, and to feel at home. The food is superb and featuring a very special cuisine: traditionally Tuscan but with some elements of Medieval and Renaissance recipes. Lunch, dinner, and always book a reservation.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Taverna da Roberto\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tavernamontisi.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taverna da Roberto<\/a> (\u20ac\u20ac) is a restaurant run by Roberto Crocenzi who has a broad knowledge of wines and Slow Food. Roberto sources all of the food locally, and the menu is seasonal. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with tables both indoor and outdoor. Reservations are recommended 0577-845159.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a title=\"Palazzo Brandano\" href=\"http:\/\/www.palazzobrandano.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Palazzo Brandano<\/a> (\u20ac\u20ac\u20ac) bar, enoteca, restaurant (and four star hotel) has a spectacular terrace with panoramic views over the countryside serving traditional Tuscan cuisine with a modern twist using produce from the area; Tuscan, Italian and International wines are also available. Open for lunch and dinner with daily specials and seasonal treats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAN GIOVANNI D\u2019ASSO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"La Locanda del Castello\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lalocandadelcastello.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La Locanda del Castello,<\/a> (\u20ac\u20ac) is located in the old part of this small ancient hamlet inside the walls of the town and directly by the castle, dating back to the Sixteenth century. It has indoor and outdoor seating and friendly service, with local specialties such as white truffles for which San Giovanni d\u2019Asso is famous. (Truffles are very seasonal; white truffles in late Autumn\/Fall; March truffles in Spring.)<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Osteria delle Crete\" href=\"http:\/\/www.assotartufi.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Osteria delle Crete,<\/a> (\u20ac) is located in the main village street. Great food, friendly service and lovely village location, perfect for watching the world go by. The Osteria offer morning coffee to multiple plate tasting lunches and dinner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TREQUANDA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Conte Matto\" href=\"http:\/\/www.contematto.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ristorante Conte Matto,<\/a> (\u20ac\u20ac\u20ac) is owned by Davide and his family with an excellent menu of Tuscan classic dishes accompanied by an extensive list of Italian wines. Indoor dining rooms and outdoor seating on a lovely terrace.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Ristorante Osteria Ciriera\" https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CirieraOsteriaCaffe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ristorante Osteria Ciriera,<\/a> (\u20ac) VEGAN bar\/restaurant serving Italian breakfasts, with simple, authentic, and tasty dishes for lunch and dinner. Located in the piazza, close to the village church.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pizzeria Paradiso<\/strong>, (\u20ac) Arguably the best pizza in the area. It&#8217;s also very popular with the locals so you probably need to book a table in advance +39 0577 662313<\/p>\n<p><strong>CASTELMUZIO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Casal Mustia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.locandadicasalmustia.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casal Mustia,<\/a> (\u20ac\u20ac) is a small restaurant, cafe\/bar (and hotel) in the centre of this typical Tuscan village, just ten minutes drive from Montisi. Friendly staff, and great food serving locally sourced and quality food.
